Barbarians 1 Cyclones 3
An out of sorts Barbarians stumbled to a shock defeat against Cyclones on a weekend to forget for the men in red and black. A slow start with players looking tired and lethargic saw little in the way of chances. It wasn't long before the Cyclones were on the powerplay and made the Barbarians pay. 1 nil Cyclones. Hawke scored an equaliser just before the half time buzzer.
Second period saw the Barbarians set up a gear but it was still know were near their best. With 5 minutes in the period another powerplay goal led to a 2-1 deficit. Another powerplay goal followed 10 minutes later with 5 minutes to go making it 3-1. All the pressure applied during the final minutes lead to nothing as the Barbarians lacked the final killer touch. Final score 3-1.
A disappointing result for the Barbarians as second in the table Khaos lost to Chiefs and league leader Salford lost to Bottesford.
Barbarians 4 Jnr Cyclones 0
After early disappointment the team lined up against the Jnr Cyclones. After defeating them 10-0 in the last encounter and them only fielding 5 outfield skaters it should have been a walk in the park for the Barbarians however it was anything but that.
Wave after wave of attacking play with plenty of shots on target resulted in the Barbarians becoming more frustrated. I took a staggering 17 minutes to get on the board with Sanderson breaking the deadlock.
Second period was much of the same with plenty of passing and moving however it was lacking the end product with a number of chances been missed looking for the perfect play. Lloyd added an insurance goal with 17 minutes to play and Clapham sealed it to make it 3-0. Final goal came from Oades which was the best move of the game with a fluent passing move which involved every Barbarian on the rink.
Final score 4-0 a 16 shot shut out for Cusick but a lot to work on for the next set of matches between Chiefs and Salford.
