Still with the possibility of lifting the league title Barbarians needed one final push to keep there hopes alive. Anything was possible as results around the league had been all over the place since the start of the season. Barbarians suffering shock defeats at the hands of Norton Cyclones and Cleakheaton Comets.
Barbarians 2 Kingston 0
An early morning encounter against Kingston saw the Barbarians struggle to a 2-0 victory with goals from 2 dman Hawke and Oades. With plenty of possession and flair the team couldn't brake down a resolute Kingston team that put bodies on the line to keep the gap tight.
Kingston also had plenty of shots which resulted in a 32 shot shut out for netminder Coote.
So it was 2 points on the board which closed the gap to 2 with other teams playing later in the day. It also guaranteed National Championship hockey for the fourth season in a row.
Barbarians 4 Chiefs 4
After tasting the first defeat against The Chiefs earlier in the season for the first time in the clubs history the Barbarians went on the pad determined not to let this happen again. Barbarians looked more composed from the off and were rewarded half way through the period with a goal coming from Hawke. It was 2-0 with a few minutes left in the period, goal coming from Wilson. The Barbarians looked comfortable. However with 1.20 remaining The Chiefs made it 2-1 and changes the game completely. Half time 2-1
The period was only a minute and half old when The Chiefs equalised. Then 5 minutes later it was 3-2. The lead lasted all of 3 minutes when Oades made it 3-3. The duo of Clapham and Wilson combined to make it 4-3. With 8 minutes remain the Barbarians needed to hold out for any change of the title. With the end in sight and an empty net too The Chiefs netted an equaliser with only 22 second remaining giving the Barbarians no chance to respond. Final score 4-4.
This left the Barbarians on 31 points. Salford lost both games leaving them on 32, Khaos scored a late equaliser against Teeside to gain the extra point needed on 33 to be crowned champions.
