League Season Review Part 3

After a lay off of a month the Barbarians played there final 4 league games over the space of 8 days.

First game was against the Vipers a team much improved than earlier in the season however a dominate attacking Barbarians steam rolled the young and inexperienced side 15-0.  With every player gaining a point.  Also it saw the return of injured assistant captain Ben Bradley.

The title decider in may peoples eye was a match up against the Northumberland Knights a team which had beaten the Barbarians easily earlier in the season 5-2.  The game was a tense affair with both teams looking to take the win and hopefully the slender advantage of an extra point.  In the end it was honours even.  final score 3-3

8 days later the Barbarians played there final 2 games.  Only 2 wins would do and keep the pressure on the Knights who had games in hand.  Norton were the first opponents of the day.  A below par performance saw the Barbarians limp to a 6-1 victory.

Final game of the season and the final push.  However it was anything but that.  A lack luster showing from a Barbarians team that looked tired, saw the team stumble to a 3-3 draw with a equalising goal in the last minute.  The third time it had happened this season.

The wait was now on as the final league meeting of the season was a month away.

Sunday June 2nd saw the Knights only needing a 2 points out of a possible 4 to lift the title.  A shock defeat in there first game lifted Barbarians hopes of the league title.  It wasn't to be as the Knights bounced back in style with a dominate victory over Bottesford to be crowned Champions.

After 20 games the Barbarians and Knights both ended on 33 points. The teams were only split on the head to head encounters.  With the Barbarians losing and drawing against the Knights the title went up to the North West.

Next stop THE NATIONALS!!!!!  July 27/28th Rotherham

Fixtures will be announced closer to the time.
