Rough with the Smooth weekend

Barbarians 2                           Comets 1
A chilly early morning start for the Barbarians saw them line up against Cleckheaton Comets a team they have seen plenty of over the past couple of seasons.  Last meeting was at the Nationals in late July when the Barbarians skated away with a 4-3 victory.

With a depleted team (only 7 skaters) the Barbarians looked to hit a fast and well drilled Comets early.  As it was the game was very even with chances at both ends.  Plenty of shots been blocked by both sets of defence men.  The decisive moment of the match was in the final minute of the first period as first Hawke ripped home a shot from top of the slot, followed by Bradley doubling the lead 13 seconds from the buzzer.

The second period again saw much of the same with players from both ends having chances, Barbarians again striking the post on numerous occasions.  With 15 minutes to go and Barbarians on the penalty kill the Comets worked the puck well on the powerplay and caught netminder Coote on the move and made it 2-1.

The final 15 minutes was a tense affair with Comets applying plenty of pressure but the team held out to take the 2 points required.

Barbarians 16                    Vipers 1

Barbarians lined up against bottom of the league Vipers in a one sided encounter.  Vipers only fielding 4 skaters and a netminder.  It wasn't long before the goals started to stack up on a tired Vipers team.  It was a good result that saw all outfield skaters on the score sheet.  6 goals from Bradley, 3 from Sanderson, 2 from Lloyd, 1 from Oades, 1 from Girling and first goals of the season for Ancliff and Chambers.  A defencive lapse cost netminder Cusick a certain shut out as the weak Vipers only mustard 10 poor shots.

A moral boosting performance with some great passing moves from the Barbairians.
Next up are the return fixtures with Bottesford and Khaos 2 weeks on Sunday.
The Barbarians need to somehow avenge their last league defeat to keep them in the hunt for this seasons league title.
