Frustrating Weekend

Barbarians 6                            Bottesford 2

Mid afternoon on Sunday saw the Barbarians meet Bottesford for the second time in just over a month.  A usually slow starting Barbarians raced out to a 2 goal lead after only 1 minute 42 seconds.  Goals coming from Oades and returning Walker.  The team were in full flow and were playing some impressive hockey and not letting Bottesford have any time on the puck.

Mid way through the first period as an innocuous slash at the puck in the netminder pads led to a little fracas between both teams.  Nothing more than some pushing and shoving.  Next minute there were players from both sides sitting in the penalty box due to the referees over reaction.  Not the first time we have seen it this season.  Their doesn't seem to be any consistency with the refereeing this season with certain individuals in a witch hunt against a number of Barbarians players.

On the ensuing penalty kill netminder Cusick made the save of the season with a sprawling glove save to deny a certain goal.  Having slipped in the build up Cusick was way out of goal and in trouble as a pass from a Bottesford player went from circles to circle, with the goal gaping and Bottesford players on there bench already cheering Cusick out stretched his glove and to his relief make the save still 2-0 Barbarians.

Bottesford got back into the game to make it 2-1 at half time.

A goal at the restart from Hawke set the tempo for the second period with the 4th coming 2 minutes later from Sanderson.  The 5th followed from a Walker.  Bottesford again pulled one back to make it 5-2, however the scoring was finished by Clapham with a great effort.

Final score 6-2

Barbarians 2                     Khaos 5

After the earlier game was interrupted by the pettiness of the referees it was a nice change to play a flowing game with calls only been made when really necessary.  After a 6-1 defeat 6 weeks ago the team went it the match wanting revenge and set out to do such a thing.

The early exchanges saw both teams have chances.  An early powerplay for the Barbarians saw them hit the cross bar.  It was however Khaos who broke the deadlock half way thought the first period.  The lead didn't last long as Bradley made it 1-1.

Khaos again went in front but Barbarians pegged them back with a great play which saw every player on the rink touch the puck before Walker slotted home his 3 goal of the day.

More opportunities were missed by the Barbarians before the break and were undone by a bobbling puck that skipped passed Oades to leave a break away on Coote.  3-2 Khaos at half time.

An early goal from Khaos set up a mammoth task for the Barbarians to get back into the tie.  Chances came and went with some last ditched defencing from Khaos.  A moment of madness from the Barbarians let them in again to make it 5-2 Khaos.

Final score 5-2 a score which slightly flatted out opponents but one that shows if you take your chances your on the right track.  This leaves the Barbarians 3 points off the top with plenty of games to play.
