Crazy weekend blows title wide open

Barbarians 2                          Salford 1
The Barbarians came into this crunch weekend off a barrent spell which has seen them take only 2 wins from a possible 7 and seen them slip from title contention. Salford came into the encounter after a 5-3 lose against The Chiefs earlier in the day. Salford were short benched however the Barbarians were missing 2 key players. It was imperative to get of the a good start and with only 2 minutes gone Bradley slotted home the first for the Barbarians. The game was controlled by the well organised Barbarians which looked to inflict more misery on there opponents. Chance after chance rained in on Salford netminder which somehow was keeping the score to 1-0. Salford then came back into the contest and levelled with 2 minutes to go in the period.

Second period was much of the same with plenty of chances going begging but with 8 minutes remaining Oades squeezed a shot home to make it 2-1. Pressure was released in the final 2 minutes with Salford taking a penalty and with it came the victory for the Barbarians. A fantastic result over the league leaders.

Barbarians 5                      Kingston 3
Second game of the day was against Kingston. A team which Barbarians generally struggle against. It was to be the usual case as missed opportunities and lax defending kept the contest tight until the end. It all seemed too easy for the Barbarians as the opened up a two goal lead in the first 16 minutes with goals from Oades and Wilson. However an odd bounce off the back boards lead to Kingston getting on the board rather fortuitous. At the interval it was 2-1 Barbarians.

Second period started and Kingston got an early goal to make it 2-2 , however Wilson clawed the lead back with a rather unusual goal as it went straight through Kingston netminder from way out. Kingston were level half way through the period to make it 3-3. The score line definitely wasn't reflecting the dominant performance from the Barbarians. With time running out Clapham stepped up with his trademark slap shot to send the bench wild. Bradley added an empty net goal to make it 5-3 Barbarians.

A 4 point weekend which has moved to Barbarians closer to second and kept the chasing pack behind at bay. Great team performance this weekend from everyone with a couple of key players missing.
